Heteranthera zosterifolia

Product description

About the species

Heteranthera zosterifolia from South America is an extremely beautiful plant that forms many lateral shoots and quickly becomes a bushy plant group. The trunks can be 30-50 cm high and 6-12 cm wide. The leaves often turn black on the back.

In bright light, growth is intense, and the plant must be pruned before it becomes so compact that no light reaches the lower leaves. Water roots often form on the stem. These can easily be cut off and replanted. In open aquariums it forms small blue flowers if a few shoots are allowed to spread on the surface.

FAQ about Heteranthera zosterifolia

How do I plant Heteranthera zosterifolia?

Remove the plant from the cup, gently rinse away the nutrient gel and divide it into several small portions. Plant them with some space between each portion so they can establish.

Is Heteranthera zosterifolia free from snails and algae?

In vitro plants are grown under sterile conditions and normally arrive free from snails, algae and pesticides, making them suitable for sensitive shrimp aquariums.

Does Heteranthera zosterifolia need CO₂?

Requirements depend on the species. CO₂ and balanced plant nutrition often produce denser, healthier growth, but follow the light and care requirements in the product description.

What matters during the first few weeks?

Provide stable lighting and nutrition, avoid major changes and remove deteriorating leaves. Newly planted specimens often need time to adapt to submerged growth.
