Marsilea hirsuta

Product description

About the species

Marsilea hirsuta is a mat-forming plant from Australia. A fascinating plant that usually comes with leaves like a four-leaf clover.

After a transition period it develops different types of leaves, possibly a low form with single leaves like a large Glossostigma, or alternatively develop two, three or four-lobed leaves varying in height (from 2-10 cm), depending on the growing conditions.

No matter what form the plant takes, it forms shoots and spreads quickly around the aquarium.

FAQ about Marsilea hirsuta

How do I plant Marsilea hirsuta?

Remove the plant from the cup, gently rinse away the nutrient gel and divide it into several small portions. Plant them with some space between each portion so they can establish.

Is Marsilea hirsuta free from snails and algae?

In vitro plants are grown under sterile conditions and normally arrive free from snails, algae and pesticides, making them suitable for sensitive shrimp aquariums.

Does Marsilea hirsuta need CO₂?

Requirements depend on the species. CO₂ and balanced plant nutrition often produce denser, healthier growth, but follow the light and care requirements in the product description.

What matters during the first few weeks?

Provide stable lighting and nutrition, avoid major changes and remove deteriorating leaves. Newly planted specimens often need time to adapt to submerged growth.
