About the species
Salvinia minima is a floating fern that occurs throughout much of the world and grows to about 1–3 cm in size. It grows quickly if it receives enough light and nutrition. Pale leaves can be a sign of a micronutrient deficiency.
The plant tends to shade the light for the plants on the bottom of the aquarium. Salvinia species have small hairs on their leaves that make them water repellent.
Salvinia minima helps prevent algae by shading parts of the aquarium while using nutrients in the water. In nature and under optimal conditions, the plant can become very large. It is a decorative floating plant that fits particularly well in open aquariums.
