About the species
Tiger snail (Neritina sp. tiger) is a popular, effective algae eater for freshwater. The striped shell and strong appetite for green algae make it a good extra in shrimp and planted tanks.
It mainly eats algae on glass, stone and wood – not shrimp and rarely healthy plants. Offer extra algae or vegetables if the tank is very clean.
Neritina lays white eggs on hard surfaces, but the young need brackish water, so they rarely breed in pure freshwater. A lid reduces escape attempts.
