About the species
'Kedagang' is a variety of the Bucephalandra family native to Borneo. It is characterized by long, narrow, dark green leaves with white dots. The leaf can be 1-2 cm wide and up to 6 cm long. The rhizomes are red and similar to the red variety of Bucephalandra.
When immersed in water, a blue metallic tone may appear on the leaves. Rhizomes are horizontal stems that grow below the surface of the soil and act as a type of root tuber or stem for some plants. They are common in several plant species, such as ferns, lilies and bamboo.
Rhizomes act as storage for nutrients and water, and can produce new plant shoots and roots from nodes along their length. They can be used by some plants as a survival strategy to cope with dry periods or other harsh environmental conditions.
Rhizomes can also be a useful feature of plants grown in aquariums or terrariums, as they can help attach the plant to the substrate and provide support for growth.
