Sell Shrimp Legally and Profitably

Selling shrimp is easy. Selling them honestly, legally and with a margin is what lasts.
A bag of Crystal Red that arrives as promised builds more customers than a lowered number on an advert.
Law, permits and animal welfare
Check the current rules before you start selling regularly. In Sweden, tax, bookkeeping and animal welfare can apply as soon as it stops being a one-off brood.
This is not legal advice. It is a reminder to read the right authority before the volume grows.
Labelling and honest grading
Sell what the customer receives, not what you hope the brood will become. An A-grade Crystal Black sold as SSS comes back as damaged trust.
Write species, line, approximate size and water values. Photograph in the same light you sort in.
An honest minimum in the listing
• The right name, for example Red Sakura or Blue Bolt
• Count and sex if you promise sex
• That the shrimp have eaten and molted with you
Pricing that holds
Include food, salt, power, time and losses. A low price on Bloody Mary can look good and still be a loss.
Keep a firm floor. Do not clear out breeders because one week is quiet.
Packing and shipping
Pack cool, oxygenated and without sharp decor. Do not overfill the bag to save postage.
Ship early in the week. A Friday parcel of Crystal Red is an unnecessary gamble.
Customer contact and complaints
Reply quickly and concretely. Ask for a photo and water values before you promise replacement.
Calm handling of a bad delivery sells the next one. A silent customer sells nothing.
Tax and bookkeeping
Keep receipts for equipment, salt and shipping. Keep private purchases and sales apart.
When the sums stop being small, talk to someone who knows the rules. Do not guess afterwards.
Marketplaces and your own shop
A local group is fast. Your own channel gives more control over copy, stock and follow-up.
Do not sell more lines than you can describe. A clear Red Sakura beats a messy list of ten names.
When you should not sell
Do not sell from a tank with disease, a fresh soil crash or a brood that just lost females. That is not generosity. It is transferring risk.
Do not sell your last breeders to cover a bill. Then you break the next season.
Build reputation before volume
Ten happy buyers of even Crystal Red beat fifty random bags. Reputation is stock you cannot buy back.
When sales are clean, you can go deeper into line breeding and logs. Keep reading at AquaShrimp and sell only what you are proud of.
