pH neutral black gravel is suitable for companion aquariums / plant aquariums. pH neutral gravel is a must in all companion aquariums as the plants cannot absorb iron & other metals well enough in high pH values to be able to grow & thrive. Too high a pH instead only favors algae.
How do I prepare Akvariegrus noir 2-3 mm 4kg before use?
Rinse inert gravel or sand in clean water until the rinse water is reasonably clear, unless the product description says otherwise. Never use soap or cleaning agents.
How deep should the layer be?
Depth depends on whether it is mainly decorative or intended to support plant roots. A gentle slope works well; avoid excessively deep oxygen-poor areas.
Is Akvariegrus noir 2-3 mm 4kg suitable for shrimp and bottom dwellers?
Check grain size, sharp edges and any effect on water chemistry. Fine rounded material is gentler for species that burrow or forage on the bottom.
How is the substrate cleaned?
Gently siphon the surface during water changes without disturbing the entire bed. In planted aquariums, leave roots and established bacterial zones as undisturbed as possible.
