Bucephalandra sp. 'Needle Leaf'

Product description

About the species

Although Bucephalandras come from Asia and Anubias from Africa, they have a lot in common, including how to grow them. Bucephalandra sp. 'Needle leaf' has slightly higher requirements than 'diabolica' and 'pygmaeae', but is still a very easy plant to grow. A little extra CO2 and a little more light is beneficial.

The flooded leaves are green, elongated and slightly wavy, with many small white dots. Each leaf is less than 0.5 cm wide and between 1 and 2 cm long. The youngest parts of the rhizome show a nice red color. Growth is slow.

The creeping rhizome must not be covered when you plant it, otherwise the plant will rot and die. Plant Information Type: Rhizomatous Origin: Asia Growth Rate: Slow Height: 3 - 5+ Light Requirements: Low CO2: Low

FAQ about Bucephalandra sp. 'Needle Leaf'

How do I plant Bucephalandra sp. 'Needle Leaf'?

Attach it to wood or rock, or place the roots lightly in substrate without covering the rhizome. A buried rhizome may receive poor circulation and rot.

Where should Bucephalandra sp. 'Needle Leaf' be placed?

Place it on hardscape in the foreground, middle or background according to the variety’s mature size. Avoid very harsh flow against delicate leaves.

Does Bucephalandra sp. 'Needle Leaf' need CO₂?

It can usually grow without added CO₂, although stable CO₂ and balanced nutrition may improve growth. Moderate lighting often reduces algae on slow-growing leaves.

How do I propagate Bucephalandra sp. 'Needle Leaf'?

Once the rhizome has grown, divide it with a clean tool. Each section should retain roots and several healthy leaves before being attached elsewhere.
