Bacopa australis

Product description

About the species

Bacopa australis was discovered in southern Brazil (australis = south), and it does not come from Australia, as might otherwise be assumed from its name. The stems are 10-30 cm high and 2-4 cm wide. Like other Bacopa species, Bacopa australis is also easy to grow in an aquarium.

Under certain conditions, it crawls over the bottom and forms an elegant and decorative light green cushion. When Bacopa australis grows in good light, the leaves turn reddish. It is easily propagated by taking lateral shoots and planting them in the substrate.

FAQ about Bacopa australis

How do I attach Bacopa australis?

Divide the moss into thin portions and attach it to rock or wood with thread or aquarium-safe glue. Thin layers receive better circulation and usually grow more evenly.

Does Bacopa australis need CO₂?

Most aquarium mosses grow without added CO₂, but steady CO₂, balanced nutrition and stable lighting can produce denser growth.

How do I keep Bacopa australis looking good?

Trim regularly and remove loose pieces and debris. Good circulation around the moss reduces trapped dirt that can inhibit growth.

Is the moss suitable for a shrimp aquarium?

Yes, moss provides a large biofilm grazing area and fine hiding places for shrimplets. Always check that the plant is clean before adding it to the aquarium.
